Sweet Scandinavian Dreams

Yesterday was a grey July day here in Toronto and the thought of curling up with my dog to watch reruns of Grace and Frankie and channel all the cozy hygge vibes I can handle is pretty appealing.

Hygge? you ask. Pronounced “hue-guh” is a Danish word used to describe a special feeling or moment, either alone or with friends and family that is cozy, charming or special.

What better way to bring this feeling into your homes than with our Gravity Copenhagen. Inspired by the beauty and simplicity of Scandinavian design, Copenhagen is a clean neutral toned floor made of European White Ash. It’s simplicity makes it a timeless choice that lends to hundreds of design possibilities.

This time around we will be sharing inspiration for a serene nursery featuring our Copenhagen floors. No pale yellows and pastel pinks to be found here. Instead, channel a soft off white/grey neutral like Benjamin Moore’s Calm OC-22 and accent it with Hale Navy HC-154 . Feature walls can be also done in shiplap in neutral colours to add texture and interest.

Keep cribs simple with a white finish in a classic style like the Ever Simple from Crate & Barrel or the Sundvik from Ikea.

Accent the room with warm woods like the Fantol Oak ladder bookcase from Article. Perfect for housing your collection of Peter Rabbit and Dr.Seuss. And what better place to curl up to read your favourite stories than in the classic Bakersfield rocking chair with your feet relaxing on a warm cognac leather ottoman.

The trick to making this space cozy even with neutral walls in using warm textiles in an array of textures. Go for warm leathers in cognac tones, or natural fabrics like linen and canvas in light oatmeal colours with soft geometric patterns.

In true minimalist style, keep clutter to a minimum by utilizing baskets made of sea-grass and water hyacinth in natural tones.

So enjoy curling up with your little one in this truly cozy room.

Sweet dreams!
